There's Talk On The Street

by David Nyro

/

about

The inspiration for this song comes from Motown, Stax-Volt, Philly soul and all that great R&B pop vibe of the 60's and early 70's. The spirits of Aretha, Stevie, Marvin, Sam and Dave and others hover. I'd love to see Adele or Sam Smith cover it. More importantly, hope you can groove to it. I love the voices on this from Sheila Kelly and Gena, Tia, Pat, and David of the Total Experience Gospel Choir. Feel free to dance!

Hook/refrain:
There’s talk on the street There’s talk on the street
There’s talk on the street There’s talk on the street

Verse 1:
I don’t know what you’ve heard
There’s talk on the street
I know every word carries some heat,
a heavy drum beat against my heart

Verse 2:
Some of it may be true I’ll grant you that,
I’ll own it too, but it’s only one view,
a piece of just who I really am

Chorus: (Singers) Don’t believe it
(David): I’m not what they say
(Singers): Don’t believe it
(David): I’m just not that w ay
(Singers) Don’t believe it
(David): If you want to believe in me

Verse 3:
You be the judge and make up your mind,
see what you find
When you read ‘tween the lines
and discover what’s real

Verse 4:
People say what they say
can’t say why they say what they say
All I know is I love you
and I will be true

Chorus: (singers): Don’t believe it
(David): I’m not what they say
(singers): Don’t believe it
(David): I’m just not that way
(singers): Don’t believe it
(David): If you want to believe in me
